Terms and Conditions
Standard Terms and Conditions
1. Hambledons provides services including hedge cutting and removal, fencing, retaining walls, and drainage work.
2. A full site survey will always be carried out before a written quotation is issued.
3. All quoted prices are inclusive of materials, labour, and VAT at 20%.
4. Any additional work, goods, or services not outlined in the original quotation will incur extra charges. However, such additions will only proceed once discussed and agreed upon with the customer.
5. Deposits: For any quotation exceeding £3,000 (excluding VAT), a 30% deposit of the total job value is required before the work can be accepted or scheduled. The exact deposit amount will be shown on your quotation.
6. The customer must ensure that, once a work date is agreed in writing, the site is ready for the job to be carried out.
7. While Hambledons will make every effort to meet agreed dates, delays may occasionally occur due to severe weather, delayed deliveries, or extended work on other projects. In such cases, customers will be informed as early as possible.
8. Before our team arrives, please ensure the garden is free from dog mess if you have pets. Additionally, suitable parking must be available for a van, and access to the garden should be clear to allow wheelbarrows and machinery to pass through.
9. All work will be completed in line with what was discussed during the site visit and detailed in the quotation.
10. The customer must provide access to water and electricity if required, at no cost to Hambledons. Note: this will only ever be ‘minimal’ amounts.
11. It is the customer’s responsibility to inform Hambledons of any underground electrical cables or pipework in the work area that could be affected during excavation. While we will do our best to identify these during the site visit, we cannot be held liable for damage unless previously informed.
12. Hambledons cannot be held responsible for any issues arising due to the customer’s actions or neglect, such as lack of watering, deliberate or accidental damage, or removal of installed elements.
13. If your project includes a guarantee (as specified in your quotation and invoice), any issues covered by the guarantee will be resolved at no cost, including materials, labour, and VAT. However, this does not cover damage from natural events (e.g. ground movement, storm damage) or customer-caused issues and lack of maintenance, full terms are available at www.hambledons.co.
14. While Hambledons sources materials from trusted, high-quality suppliers, we cannot guarantee their long-term performance after leaving the site.
15. Natural products may exhibit variations in colour, texture, or pattern. Therefore, exact matches with any samples provided cannot be guaranteed.
16. Wood, being a natural material, may react to weather conditions—splitting, warping, or changing shape. This is generally temporary and normal. Hambledons cannot be held responsible for such natural changes.
17. Extreme weather conditions may damage materials like terracotta, stone, and other paving products if not protected. It is the customer’s responsibility to take appropriate precautions, as such events are beyond Hambledons’ control.
18. Force Majeure – Neither Hambledons nor the customer will be liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, strikes, accidents, war, machinery breakdown, governmental actions, extreme weather, or supplier issues. In such cases, a reasonable extension of time will be granted.
Turf-Specific Terms
1. Hambledons accepts no responsibility for damage caused by invasive plant species (e.g. Japanese knotweed, bamboo, mare’s tail), tree roots, or bulbs that may affect installed lawns. Repairs in such cases will be chargeable.
2. We are not liable for subsidence caused by natural ground movement or ground previously excavated within the past 3 years (e.g. in new build properties).
3. Hambledons is not responsible for damage caused by animals—domestic or wild—including badgers, moles, rodents, foxes, etc.
4. Responsibility for insect infestations, such as leatherjackets, is not accepted by Hambledons.
5. After turf installation, the customer is responsible for its care. This includes keeping it well watered and avoiding foot traffic for at least 3 weeks.
6. Hambledons is not liable for damage to turf due to environmental factors like drought, wind, rain, or frost.
7. Once turf has been laid, responsibility for maintenance and watering passes to the customer. While we make every effort to remove visible weeds during preparation, we cannot be held accountable for any weed growth post-completion.
8. As noted earlier, Hambledons will not accept liability for defects arising from neglect or improper care by the customer.
Charges and Payments
1. Deposits: For jobs quoted over £3,000 (before VAT), a deposit of 30% is required before work is confirmed. The specific deposit amount is noted in your quotation.
2. Payment Methods: Deposits can be paid by bank transfer or cheque.
3. Pricing: The quoted price is valid for 30 days and will be the amount shown in the quotation provided by Hambledons.

5. Ownership of materials and equipment remains with Hambledons until full payment has been received.

• The customer requests changes to delivery dates, quantities, or types of goods/services; or

7. Full payment of the remaining balance is required on the day work is completed. Payments can be made by cash, cheque, or BACS transfer.
8. All prices are inclusive of VAT at the applicable rate unless otherwise stated.
