Dorset Community Projects Making a Difference
Cerne Abbas “Consequences Giant” Art Installation

A colourful new community art installation, the “Consequences Giant,” has appeared near the Cerne Abbas Giant. Created by over 100 participants, including schools and local groups, it celebrates collective creativity and connection to nature. Led by artist Becca Gill as part of the national “Nature Calling” initiative, the project is touring Corfe Castle and Yeovil’s Summerhouse Hill later this month.
Studland Beach Wildlife Restoration
Middle Beach at Studland is undergoing a wildlife restoration project by the National Trust. Stone and concrete defences are being removed to restore natural sandy habitats, improving conditions for sand lizards, slow worms, and other wildlife. The area will be closed during the restoration, but nearby facilities remain open.
Canford Garden Village Development
Plans for Canford Garden Village near Wimborne include 1,200 new homes, green spaces, and community facilities. Businesses and residents can get involved through consultations, sponsorship, or participation in community initiatives linked to the development.
How Residents and Businesses Can Get Involved in Dorset Community Projects
There are many simple ways to support Dorset’s community projects:
Residents can:
Volunteer through Dorset Volunteer Centre to give time and skills to local initiatives.
Attend events such as the Consequences Giant exhibition — find details at Activate Performing Arts.
Share feedback on developments like Canford Garden Village via Dorset Council consultations.
Businesses can:
Sponsor local art, environmental, or heritage projects — contact Dorset Community Foundation for opportunities.
Offer resources, venues, or staff time to community groups through schemes like Dorset Council’s Buy Local initiative.
Promote projects by sharing updates with customers, staff, and social media audiences.
By connecting with these opportunities, both residents and businesses play an active role in strengthening Dorset’s cultural, environmental, and social fabric.
